The Louisiana Oyster Task Force was created by an act of the Louisiana Legislature in 1988 to represent the broad interests of the state’s oyster industry. Specific responsibilities of the Task Force include marketing, presenting industry views in various legal and regulatory affairs, and administering the Oyster Development Fund, as generated from oyster tag revenues.

Task Force members are selected by the various associations and agencies to represent specific geographic and business interests of the oyster industry.

The Task Force is served administratively by the Executive Director of the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board, an employee of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
