The Louisiana Oyster Task Force was created by the 1988 Louisiana Legislature with the directive to strengthen the oyster industry. Responsibilities follow.

• Expand current markets and develop new markets.
  
  
• Represent interests of industry before federal and state administrative and legislative bodies.
  
  
• Contract for legal services to represent interests of the industry in judicial, administrative, and legislative proceedings.
  
  
• Perform any acts deemed necessary and proper to carry out the legislated directive.
